I arrived around 7pm, the sun was shining and the fun atmosphere hit you immediately. The fun fair was in full swing with teenagers screaming at the rides as they went round faster and faster. The music screeching out and the gangs of youths singing along to the tunes! I made my way down to the main stage area, passing the porto loo’s on the way, very discreetly out of the way, but I had clocked where the bright orange conveniences were.
The main area was full of families having picnics on their blankets on the ground, kids laughing and running about, dogs sitting waiting patiently for any left over’s, the whole scene was happy, happy. The stage was set at the bottom of the hill and there were many food and sweet stalls set neatly around the arena, the great smells wafting through your nostrils begging you try something, so I did, a fantastic baguette with sausage and onions, a hot chocolate and then it just had to be done, hot donuts! Fantastic! There was a beer tent too, if you so required.
Music was playing from the stage, but the band was just playing there last set. Next came ‘Summer’s dance school, they did a fine repertoire of dances from all ages to all kinds of tunes. – Fantastic performance from all involved and the crowd really enjoyed their show by the rapturous applause after!
Next came another band, with a great female vocalist, the crowd were rocking – good performance by ‘white doves’???
Then came Becky Jarvis, brilliant female vocalist, great performance with It’s Raining Men! and River Deep, Mountain High!
Then, came Angelo Starr and the Edwin Starr Band – The Team! They came on as always with enthusiasm and star quality opening with Jackie Wilson’s – Your love keeps Lifting me Higher and Higher, they then belted out War, S.O. S, Contact and a great rendition sung by Angleo Starr of Stevie Wonder’s – Very Superstitious.
The crowd were rocking and really enjoying the show, singing along and dancing on the grass to all the tunes, when they had finished the crowd were screaming Encore, Encore!! So back they came singing a few tracks off their new album – Keep the Faith.
A fantastic night was had by all and many of the crowd came forward to meet the guys after their performance for a chat and autographs – the Team were more than happy to oblige.
